I know in the past many times it was debated -- why people do not support? Let me put forth what I feel.
Effort put by IV is very commendable. But the beneficiary of IV work (mostly) do not give importance to Green Card. That is what I think based on talking to multiple people and that is what we see from the % participation of people for various fruitful effort put forth by IV. Most of them say they do not care if they get GC or not. In their heart of heart they may but not too much.
Other reason I can think of is -- There could be doubt in minds of many people of IV strength. The day IV gets some success, people will rally behind IV for a while. And that is the scenario outside world too. See the stock price. If the company is doing good, stock price goes up. The day one bad news comes, stocks falls down. Take the presidential election. You can very well make out that contribution by company or people is proportional to candidate wins. If you are loosing, contribution will dry out very fast. I am not saying that candidate will not have supporter but that would be less in number. Take N.T. Rama Rao case. The day Naidu ditched him and others followed him, no officials gave importance to NTR.
Believe me, in my office or outside, I have talked to every Indian. And not one comes back n discusses with me about IV.
I strongly feel IV is doing a commendable job with some dedicated contributors.
Well - Thats what I have noticed, but people go nowhere nor do they do anything for themselves. More than interest, I think people do not want to get into these things, no one wants to take unwanted risks - as thats how people percieve it. A lot of people feel IVs protocols are tough - I don't think askig people to send letters is tough.
Talking about organization's successes - IV is not a software company attracting people to buy shares or seek advantage - for the nth time - this is not a software or IT project or a wall street financial. WSe must come out of that mind sets.
AMAN KAPOOR, JAY PRADHAN, HIMANSHU and everyone who are on the forefront are JUST ORDINARY COMMON PEOPLE LIKE EVERYONE HERE. the idea behind IV is to provide a support network. If people want to see success - they HAVE to be a part of it. The efforts of such organizations is not to make profits and then sell shares and perform well and then make people join it, it is to provide with a platform where people can help themselves.

Lets go to a doctor - a doctor does not guarantee that they will cure u but gives you advice, treats you and gives you medicine and asks you to follow certain protocols. That is exactly what IV is.
Our primary issue is in our thought process. We want to do everything, we want everything in the world BUT we do not want to stand up and rise in unity. We want to blame IV leaders saying they are rude and pushy. We come up with discussion threads saying we must do this we must do that and finally we see these discussions just getting buried.
Good examples of how communities thrive anywhere in the world are the Jewish community and the Patel community. The only reason they have succeeded is because they believe in themselves and their cause - they are all over the world and are united, they have managed to make their lives easier by uniting for their causes.
Look at us - if green card is delayed - we say - I dont care about it, India is rising - but are we going there? No way - no one who says "India is rising" will go - in fat they will be the first to apply for any immigration benefit.
Why are we individually so highly skilled and intelligent and capable but collectively so naive? Why do we always want others to do it for us? is it because if there is any opposition the active ones will be affected and we can escape? is it cowardice that stops us from being united?
What is success? How can we achieve success? Why are we finding excuses for not doing our part? Why do we always want to praise others but not do something?

They do not have to go to 7% if they don't want to. However; they can't go over it; if there is more demand then supply.
I am not disputing this. Entire discussion here is how to handle if demand is less than supply due to the impose of 7%.

We all need to concentrate on being united. No point in pulling down others. This is typical behavior of Indian attitude. Do you think you will get your GC faster if EB1 abuse stops??? I would say no, we would be still stuck in the same shit hole for another 10 years. Why waste energy on this??? We should rather work on more constructive action items.
Our main problem is 7% quota for India, China and other retrogressed countries is simply not enough. We need some relief in any possible way.
Sometime back i did suggest an idea of working towards a separate Quota (not counted towards 140,000) for Masters/PhD students. That horse was beaten to death.
Lets think more positive and list down all actions that we could work.

I hate their scheming means to rope you in. They keep calling you and bug you to death. Is there anything that you could do to repel Amway desis? Any sprays, creams, poison?
If you want to be gentle - You can say that you have done it in the past and quit...
If you want to scare them - you can also add I quit because I got an audit from IRS and USCIS as it is illegal on non-immigrant visa....that will scare the hell outta them...

Ultimately everything boils down to corruption. Huge money is going down in the pockets of big media houses, it is so damn obvious...Hindustan times, IBN & NDTV carried pictures of Priyanka Gandhi's children for 3 days on the front page, I never saw pictures or anything on Chandrababu Naidu, Yedirappa, Badal, Gehlot, Shivraj Chauhan or for that reason anybody....these kids are more important than our grassroot leaders ? The family is talking about "Rahul kee Shaadee" and the whole media is printing that, nobody's asking them where were you and what you did in last 5 years ???

I am sure the immigration officers might have got news about people from India make illigal entry into US when they come as part of some drama, dance, shows.
Many "extras", dancers, musicians have vanished after landing in US.....check any local desi Indian resturant, kirana stores those desi working there are all illigal immigrants....it is not only mexicans but many from northern India states are here as illigal immigrants ....
the easiest way to make entry into US, Canada is landing here as part of a show troop....few famous Indian personality have been detained and proved that they were tainted in human traffacking....Ministers, Movie Stars, SInger, Musical show organizers ....
Many Desis have vanished in UK, Germany, Holland, US, Canada.... {I am not saying SRK is involved in Human Traffacking ...but Indian are and show is the most common option}

If you are really bright (as you claim that u graduated from best college of Rajasthan), then you should not worry about wages. Bright people always find jobs and make money irrespective of how many people are in the market.
I feel that after getting your GC you starting enjoying life and forgot to upgrade your skills. may be you came to USA after doing one month course in Java or COBOL during late 1990's.

The question doesn't arise because he is SRK or APJ or in future Manmohan singh. The point is does it take TWO HOURS to find the identity of the person. How did you feel when you were questioned for an hour at the POE even after staying here for 9 years and stay in US legally and paying taxes etc.. can't they have better immigration procedures in place to identify legal from illegal (LIKE biometric finger printing, etc). They have this sophisticated computer information network.. if you give your SSN they can find any data they want.. about your employer, about your pay roll, your taxes etc.. then why this delay at POE to idenfity geniune people from entering US. These actions look totally racist to me. Don't you think these (US) people know how to improve this system.. they can but there is no will to do so.. Just look at priority dates how they swing +5 years to -5 years every year (2000 to 2005). It looks like someone just picks any year between 2000 to 2005 based on his mood. Can't this developed country have a software system to predict visa number availability or to predict how the dates should advance and by how much... this is want really sucks.. this so called developed country doesn't have a system in place for immigration issues.. Just look at the people who got their green cards who's priority dates were 2006 and people from 2002 or 2003 are still waiting.. how can their system (software) allow people with older dates to wait while someone with PD 2006 get their GC.. Things can be better managed and controlled with total transperancy but there is no WILL to do so.. i am not sure if IV can play any role in pushing some reforms to have a better system in place. There was another thread discussing about IO officers visting to employee office to find geniune applications and for more details.. this is simple waste of money and resources with SSN can give you almost 90% of the details.... overall the frustration is about the System and not about SRK or APJ.
While proponents would mask this whole backlog issue as something purposefully done by the "system" I don't buy it. It is a proven disaster.
As far as the software goes clearly their programmers suck. They sure could use some help from the more efficient H1B's.

EB2 India - PD June 2006
Currently on H1B and have I797 - I-94 until Oct 2010.
Visa Stamp Expired June 2006.
EAD approved for me and wife. My wife is using EAD.

Family went to India last year June and returned to US on July 2007 before we applied I485 on Aug 2007.
Both my wife and son came on H4. Since my son�s passport is expiring Jan 2009, I94 is given only until Jan 2009 at the POE, though he has H4 Visa stamped until OCT 2010.

Now, I am applying his passport renewal. My questions are,

See, we need to understand, life is a Lottery. No place for Logic. USCIS LOVES lottery...after diversity visa lottery, they are also doing LOTTERY for H1 now, and one day if they like the idea of doing LOTTERY, for EB cases, they might throw away this all mambo jambo of EB1,2,3/PD/RD/ROW/IN/CH...and JUST DO THE LOTTERY!! After this post, I will go buy a Californial Lotto...;)

While we are all sharing about our Amway solicitation experiences, let me share what I've seen in the last few years.
Background: In the last 6 years, I've been approached over 2 dozen times in the Bay Area. Things got so bad that the same guys have approached me more than 3 times in some cases before realizing that they've already talked to me before.
Incident #1:
A guy approached me while I was at the mall saying "hi" and striking up a conversation. During our short chat, this 20-something desi guy proceeds to tell me that he is the CIO of Fox News. At which time I pull out my iPhone and look him up using my LinkedIn app under the guise of adding him to my network. Turns out he is an engineer at a local company which he covers up by being embarassed and saying "I haven't updated my profile." I joke about how he moved up in his career so quickly - he then makes an excuse and walks away. I never hear from him again. Another reason to love technology!
Incident #2:
I get approached while shopping at the local GAP store. Being a veteran of this form of solicitation, I respond by saying that I work for the San Jose Mercury News and that we are doing a story on Multi-Level Marketing schemes. I ask him if he knows anyone who would be willing to chat on the record. This guys says "Nope, don't know anyone" and walks away. I never see him again...
Incident #3:
I am at the Nike store and get approached by this guy asking me if I work at Google (I do not). I tell him "Nope" and walk away before he can ask me another question. I have been approached by this same guy 2 more times at other stores (within 6 months) asking me similar questions. The 3rd time, I tell him - "We've spoken before - No, I don't work at Google, No, I'm not from Delhi and No, I'm not interested in what you are selling." He is stunned and walks away with his tail between his legs :)

The local Fry's is a popular hang out for Amway-types. I learned the hard way because I made my first mistakes here. Both guys that struck up a good conversation with me turned out to be Amway types. After the 2nd phone call, I tell them that if they call me again, I will report them to the authorities and Fry's for illegal solicitation and harassment.
This stops both people in their tracks. I never see them at Fry's again!
Bottom-line: Hold your ground, use technology and don't be afraid to kick them around a little bit. Saying "No" is golden!

More than the money, these guys are plain stalkers! They don't leave you even if you are not interested and even after blindly telling them right on their face. Anywhere you go, Costco, Walmrt, Indian grocery stores, Malls these guys are right behind you. Next time i am calling COPS and i am going to report these guys.

this depends on the number of approvals and not on the number of applications received. Even if there are tons of applications received, unless there are enough approvals happening simultaneously, dates would not retrogress in the middle of the month.
USCIS had approvals before dates moved. USCIS knows the number of such approvals.
These approvals are getting GC before approval of current applicants. If earlier approvals use up quotas, retrogression does not have to wait for current approvals.
