I have been to srilanka and only tamils in colombo should have ID wherever they go. I was checked in multiple places because i was from TN.(this was back in 2000).
I have met hundreds of businessman from srilanka in TN who lost everything and doing daily work to live. They were not from south or north part of SL but from colombo..
Do you know how many tamils fled that country and living all over the world.
Even now there is no political solution provided by SL govt after they clear out the so called Terrorists.
It is India's business because india provided training and weapons to the so called terrorists during indra gandhi period. If we don't mind then china and pak will mind and they will be at India's balls and they can squeeze as hard as they can.

Has anybody really tried to get a mortgage recently? I have been denied by 8 lenders so far simply because I don't have a green card. Most lenders have tightened their underwriting guidelines. They will give mortgages only to U.S.Citizens or somebody who is a permanent resident aka having a green card. There are very very few lenders who will give mortgages to somebody on a visa and the rates may not be very favorable.

DOS making sure "ethnic mix" by a "country based limit", so if "India" is divided into 100 different small nations, everyone of them will get GC really fast (even though they are all in same ethnic).
These Employment verification letter RFE and same and semilar job requirement were not framed assuming it takes a person from India 10+ years to get a green card. There were framed assuming it takles 2 to 3 years to get a green card.

Hello sir, I am on H1B, a new company is hiring me and they have little knowledge about h1b issues, my h1b transfer is not filed yet, they are 100% sure that they r gonna hire me, but I haven't decided whther to work with them or not, the other day I went to their office to fillout the application for background check but they made me fill out all the forms that a candidate has to fill during the hiring process, they went ahead and filled my I-9 and w-4 forms too. I was thinking that it's all a process of pre-hiring,but after coming home I did a little research and found out that I-9 has to be filled after they transfer my h1b, do you think is it gonna be a problem?I e-mailed them not to put me in the system, did I violate any law by getting hired by them before even my visa transfer process is started?ofcourse I didn't start my work and I am not going to start until my visa tranfer is done. The employment is at will and I didn't sign any contract with them, do you think they will create any problems for me in future(if they want to)?b'cos I haven't decided to work wth them yet and I may tell them that I am not gonna join them. Please advice me I am really tensed.

Yes I agree.. But if they don't move date foward then they can't approve those backlog applications.And they don't want to loose 40,000 visas . Now when they made all date current, they can approve all those pending application which are complete and just waiting for date to become current. Now we don't know real number and don't know how long it will take USCIS to do all approvals. But if they approve 40,000 in 2 weeks, I won't be surprised if they make it 'U' like other workers.
But then question still remains why they made all current. They could have just moved it by year or so.. And I am sure they know how many application they can expect in July.. I already saw some where that we have around more then 80,000 approved perm.. All they going to apply.. And what about all whose labor just got approved fro Backlog centers?
Its making everybody confused.. But its not in our hand and we can't do anything. Best thing is to file asap and just hope for best and we are always ready for worst..

Interestingly explanation he gave for advocating his recipe was the same explanation you are giving for 'why it is difficult to rule India'
He said since India is young country it needs gentle intervention from state to get rid of the existing social-economic disparities. His formula resulted in bureaucratic bottlenecks, red tape, widened existing socio-economic disparities ,gave rise to mafia culture and the list goes on making Nehruvian socialism synonymous to failure in Indian dictionary.His dynastic descendants tried to push it under carpet as long as they could .Result: we see people thinking Nehru was a visionary.
Our own Intelligent MMS in 90's named Nehruviain Socialism a failure before he opened the reforms in the market.It is said that when P.V/MMS duo took charge they found that country's foreign exchanges reserves couldn't last for 24 hours.
India is very difficult to rule. Thats why we outsource that. It is not a joke.
Even after independence, Nehru had very strong majority goverment. Still he had a problems in ruling the country. He had lot of vision in economy, poverty, socialism etc.. But he and subsequent PMs (mostly congress) failed becuse of unimaginable local issues based on India's diversity and polygenious nature of the state. India is a victim of its own diversity and long/old (and strong) regional history. This diversity includes language, tradition, culture, food habit, religion, caste and so on. Therefore, India is victim of its own division and diversity. India is untied or born in 1947 because of British rule. Infact, there is no country called Republic of India before 1947. Indian constitution (or concept of united India) is brand new compare to regional history. Naturally, regional interest always prevails. So ruling India is still a new and uphill task. 60 years is very less to come to conclusion. Thats why, all congress PMs had failed in reforms. And now in the information age, India become materialistic, everybody wants everything. So naturally corruption increases. So one can not blame just congress alone for the mess.

How else is a consulting company supposed to work - if they do not send their consultants to client site? Consulting is not always a one month affair - all IT organizations need long term consulting on permanent basis from subject matter experts. Again I know for sure that this is a misguided memo from some folks in USCIS who has no practical understanding of the complexity of modern IT organizations.

Guys,
I live in a place, Where we can find very few Indians. Out of 1500 units of apartments we are the only Indian family used to live in.
One fine day (of course relaized that was worst day) My kid is playing at the play ground and I saw one Indian couple was walking towards the ground. I was so excited (offcourse later exploited) that atleat my will get some company. He spoke to me nice and I introduced my wife. I gave my phone number ...
After 3 -4 days I got a call !!!! He said, one of his friend (big shot) is retiring this evening, if you guys can join, The Saga continued ..
We all went then I relaized that it is Quix !! I couldn't get rid of them for 3,4 months (Offcourse I am new to US that time). But atlast we told them we can not do ... Even after that he used to call us for atleast do this ... you don't need to do any thing we all take care of it.etc.
While I am reading this thread, I am laughing myself alot and I read almost all the replies. Offcourse I don't think some of our friends are writing that some quix guys may read this threading and upset about it.
Common even my wife and myself had fight about these guys and I was so upset for days and every time we meet I was so embarasssed to say "No".

I work for this company and I moved to the different state. Now my company has approved labor from the state I was before in with similar job as mine with similar degree as mine. What do you guys say, should I go for substitution? Lawyer says that even though I am in a different state, he can apply for this, but if it takes more than 6 months, he will file state change and I will be ok. Worst case is, I have to move, but only when its approved. What do you guys say, should I go for it?

All I meant was - TN is again just a visa after all and is just another version of the H1B hell. You ought to do better than just working for some one to pursue your American Dream right? What use it is to keep looking for an employer, extending your visas - is that not just a glorified version of H1B? True freedom is when you could quit an ass of any employer and come back home with your head held high :)
To qualify for TN status you need to become a Canadian citizen first, and that's what I'm going to do. It'll take about 4 years, maybe a little longer (3 year cumulative presence over the last 4 years + bureaucratic process of switching from PR to citizenship). With my Canadian passport I'll have many more options than with my current one. Working in TN status in the USA is just one of these options. It's mostly appealing to those who can get a better paying job in the USA. If I'm not happy with that job, I can always go back home -- to Canada.
Your concept of "true freedom" is rather limited, if you think about it. :) To me true freedom is when you can choose on any given day what you want to do: work, travel, sleep all day, have fun, etc. It requires much more than having a green card or even a US citizenship.

Your concept of "true freedom" is rather limited, if you think about it. :) To me true freedom is when you can choose on any given day what you want to do: work, travel, sleep all day, have fun, etc. It requires much more than having a green card or even a US citizenship.

You nailed it brother! SRK is just another moron who thinks he owns the world! All things being equal, there is no reason for him to get any special treatment at all -- he is no diplomat or a guest of this country. If there was something wrong with his luggage and/or profile that made the CBP flag him and question him, I don't see anything wrong with that. I can't agree more with you on the stupid "VIP" culture that sits deep in the roots of these glorified-beyond-reality idiots.

This is just a case of another innocent civilian getting affected for no reason. SRK has travelled to US many times and USCIS has his finger print and knows who he is. Still just bcs his last name was khan, they found reason to interrogate him for 2 hours. I just don't see any logic in what they did. We are not saying they should not have all these security checks but it should be consistent and should have some meaning.

Well this is good news, at least there is a debate. Hopefully USCIS will go ahead without waiting for the FBI and go ahead and process the case, and not wait for the FBI.

My friend, the purpose of green card is to allow you to convert into citizenship sometime down the road. If you are not ready and willing to spend your saved money in the US and better its economy, then how can you expect the US goverment to help you?
If you do not have enough money, then you are not paid the prevailing wage or the wage mentioned on the green card. If you do not have a job, how can your green card process still be there arent you illegal already?
To add to all the above, as nixtor has stated, reduced backlogs help everybody.
This is not fair and good idea. what about people waiting in line for years and invested their money elsewhere because of this green card delays or those who do not have enough money and job in this market situation. All of the sudden you are brining this idea. This is not fair. This is kind of buying green card. There is a investment based green card category available for that. I request you to go through that channel if you are rich. Not all employment based green card seekers are rich. Please keep that in mind.

Well said. These kind of feelings are general for human beings. But thinking and worrying about any problem is not going to fetch you anything. If anyone has problem, then they have to start thinking about a solution. This is help them to overcome the the real problem. Thinking and worrying about it will make the problem wrost.
Every human being is having two virtual circles in his entire life. The inner circle is circle of influence on which you have full control and outer one is circle of concern on which you dont have any control. You cannot change the weather(outer circle). Worrying about how cold or hot is not going to help you, but you can wear adequate clothing(inner circle with your control) to over come it.
So think what you can do with what you have in your control. This will bring peace and happiness in your life and eventually will enable you to overcome big issues in simple way.

* US is one of the countries people are flocking into. Even lots of people from UK, Australia and Canada come here to settle.
* Given this, whenever there are opportunities to lure people in, there will be takers and people who sell (like preapproved labor). If USCIS puts a stop on preapproved labor, then there will be other avenues to take advantage of.
You may have others in your field/company who are less-educated than you, younger than you and earning more than you, so can you lose sleep over it? No! It is part of life.
Just focus your energies on IV and its adoption. :)

Nixtor, this idea is worth trying. If people who are buyinh house can be exempted from the VB quota, this will free up extra visas and will help those people who will not buy a house.
