chandu...have u read the lawsuit outcome? do u still think that an administrative fix is easier to achieve than a lawsuit? lets say it comes down to either/or...either a lawsuit or an administrative fix...which one would IV support?
but actually an administrative fix is a very real possibility. the administration is currently willing and friendly to this kind of action. we need to draw their attention to the urgency of the matter and the need to act quickly. a lawsuit, if it were to happen is many years away. anyway USCIS cannot recapture any GC on it's own, so it will have to wait for a final verdict and order to do anything..assuming success.
therefore i would strongly suggest promoting the admin fixes campaign at this time, we do not want to lose this opportunity. this is not an either/or situation. writing letters does not take away from any other ideas etc.
a failure would not bode well in general when it is because of lack of participation. i want to hasten to add that letters have reached in the thousands now- but we need more, many more. please keep up the efforts, and thanks to the many that are working on this now...!

I just got my medical forms from Canadian Consulate in Buffalo. Our documents were accepted on December 8, 2005, and the letter that accompanied medical forms and request for updated documents (interview has been waived) is dated October 4, 2006. Heh, I wish USCIS had this kind of turnaround. :)

As long as we are not citizens of USA showing interest in Indian politics is ok. I would say even after becoming citizens it is ok since we are connecting to our country of birth/origin. If someone wants to discuss Burma or China, they can also do that.
We are immigrants and still are nostalgic to our India. Nothing wrong in it.
Now tell me, at home do you only discuss immigration with your wife and kids just because you do not have a greencard and are obsessed with it? or do you only discuss work in your office just because you are at work and office is for work? Don't you joke around, have a fun time etc at work too? or do you just send a rude email in big red letters to your CEO saying please delete my name from your payroll because someone in my office is discussing something other than work and I am offended.

Does anybody know how many EB2-I and EB2-ROW PERMs were processed for 2006, 2007 and 2008? Once we know these numbers it will be easy to predict EB2-I movement as all of the spillover numbers will be used primarily by EB2 India.

For the most part I think you're right. When I did my master's we were less than 10 white people in 200 in that major. Most of the indian people in there (about half of the 190) were H4s studying while the spouse came on H1 directly from India. And while I had to pay international tuition they got the in state resident tuition.
When I finished my degree might I add in the top 5 of those 200 I had a hard time finding a job while my colleagues each knew someone who helped them land a job a lot easier. I did ok for myself in the end and I have many Indian friends so don't take this as an anti-indian post. But there are definitely advantages to be part of a big group that is concentrated in an industry.
That being said, I don't think that we would be having this discussion in a normal world in which the GC numbers are enough. So stop the bickering and work towards increasing those numbers. That will make life easier for everybody.
The reason we have greater supply of workforce in IT from one specific country is not because of skills or talents. Almost every IT workers from ROW and China came to the US as a foreign student after TOEFL, GMAT, GRE, internship and only then landed a job in IT. Whereas the preponderence of IT workers from India came here through L1/B1/H1 sponsorship through bodyshops. Attending school, preparing for generalized tests requires time, money and patience. This is one big factor why the supply curve is skewed.

The comment period ended April 17th 2006. I heard, Many top companies were against elimination, probably, because they had plenty of labors using which they could attract senior and bright H-1B's. Also, I think USCIS needs to publish an elimination of substitution in this respect which will again have to go through comment period, only after all this the elimination will come into place.
But the reason why elimination proposal came in is because of fraud and not because of unfair ness to people who are in line or FIFO because of transfer of PD. DOL and USCIS noticed that companies are sellling Labors which is fraud. There was some memo that USCIS will not publish until last quarter, soeveryone expected the rule will become effective by August September time frame. this makes no sense (with all due respect to Mr Gotcher). He basically claims that PD has been moved to allow CP cases to be processed faster to avoid visa number wastage.. However he also says that there is a huge backlog of AOS cases. Looking at how many CP cases are being called for interview in mumbai and delhi (low hundreds) I dont see how CP alone can help avoid a big wastage of visas. If USCIS is still 20k short, then its the massive pile of AOS cases they should be using, just like they did last year.
Several things to consider.
1. Is it really 20k left for this year.
2. Are there more EB2 RoW applicants filed I-485 for the last few months.
3. You have number from India CP, do you have number from China CP.

Can't you understand the meaning of fair shot and equality ? Let people apply in FIFO . Don't tell me what US wants ? No one has a clear idea of it.and suddenly people like you for your personal interests have started opposing IV's skill based initiative because your dates moved a little ahead and supporting existing discriminatory laws. It doesn't cost you anything to make promises, also people are used to being ditched by politicians, so they don't complaint. I guess mostly people feel satisfied by just getting the glimpse of you if you are a celeberity, otherwise why would anybody vote for Sanjay Dutt(thank God Supreme court banned him) ? Govinda, Dharmendra, Jayapradha have proved to be worst MPs for their constituencies...Mirage, thanks for the correction..

Indians are masters in creating unnecessary ourage. Look what a big deal the Indian media made of students being attacked in Australia. Indians declared Australia as a racist country and they branded Britain also as racist when Shilpa Shetty episode took place. Now also they are making a non-issue as a big deal. It seems that Indians thinking is buillt around that all the world is racist and biased toward India. But, when it comes to showing ourage to genuine issues they are always silent. So many horrible things happen to millions of Indians everyday but no body cares about them. Also, when chinese think tank published a report last week about breaking India in many states, there was no outrage. As compared to this news SRK news is nothing. The reason is simple chinese will shut Indians out because they know what works while dealing with Indians.
